The format for the reports for this project can be found below; one of the main goals isn't necessarily to teach this specific form though it can be useful in those situations where you aren't given a structure to followbut rather to give you practice following a prescribed format.
No matter the name, audience, or format, these reports have one specific purpose: to account for activities that happened in the workplace.
As such, the ability to write clearly about actions that happened is vital -- and a hard skill to master. It requires attention to detail, as well as strong organizational skills and understanding of purpose. For this assignment, you will be writing two activity reports, each at least one page long, on an activity that we will be doing over two class periods. You will work in groups to develop and execute the activity, but your reports will be done individually.
In a small group, you will create a raft from an 8-inch-byinch piece of aluminum foil and four plastic straws; the goal for the raft is to hold as many pennies as possible. All materials will be provided for you, and you cannot use any outside materials. This project will be developed over two class days.
During the first day, the Design Phase, you will work with your group to design your raft. You will want to discuss various ideas for your raft, draw a sketch of your final design decision, and create a list of instructions for the next phase.
During the second day, the Build and Test Phase, you will have twenty minutes to build your raft. At the end of the twenty minutes, each group will turn in their raft and give an estimate for the number of pennies you believe your raft will hold. We will use a point system to determine a winner:.
A brief note: You will not, of course, be graded on how well your raft fares. The points are just for fun. Your individual written reports will be the basis of your grade. What do I write in the log? There is literally nothing ever going on xD do I just write what time I took over the log writing and what time I started my shift and who I switched with? Or do I have to write down like how hard a kid was splashing in the pool?
